Antes de iniciar esta série de posts, queria contar uma pequena historinha. Desde criança quando eu ouvia shows (e me viciava em escutar os mesmos) ficava imaginando como seria poder ter estado naquele show e sonhava com uma máquina do tempo (lol) para algum dia voltar naquele dia e poder assistir. Assim criei uma espécie de “top shows” nesta minha mente perturbada levando em conta isto, os shows que eu queria ter presenciado.
Quando falamos no post-punk inglês, o Echo & The Bunnymen é talvez umas das bandas mais conhecidas daquela fase dos 80s. Eu costumo dizer que conheço as bandas mais obscuras dos 80s e desconheço as mais famosas. Então, eles são um exemplo disso. Só vim parar pra escutar o som deles de fato em 2012~2013 (não lembro ao certo) quando tive a brilhante ideia de comprar em um sebo o CD do Live In Liverpool. Ainda hesitei em escutá-lo durante algum tempo mas quando o ouvi, PORRA MAS QUE SOM DO C#*&$¨¨@)!!! Desde então ele é um item indispensável para minhas viagens onde ele se tornou um dos 3 discos que mais gosto de ouvir na estrada. Rescue abre o disco com aquela guitarrinha simples mas marcante que me fez pegar o violão quando cheguei em casa pra procurar as notas da música. Lips Like Sugar já pega o embalo da anterior bem como King Of Kings (outra que quando me viciei no som me fez pegar o violão) que é a ‘open song’ do então, novo álbum da banda, o Flowers de 2001. Sou suspeito a falar de Never Stop por que a primeira vez que a ouvi foi esta versão e tenho que dizer que ela está bem melhor do que a cara que ela tinha nos 80s, digo, acho que aqueles ‘gritos’ do refrão não fazem falta. Seven Seas e The Killing Moon foram músicas que já ‘conhecia’ das discotecagens de alguns eventos e gigs aleatórios que já participei e estas aqui se apresentam em ótimas versões. Não tenho palavras suficientes pra descrever Buried Alive; não, ela não é aquela maravilha de música mas tem algo em particular nela, algo meio melancólico mas que ao mesmo tempo se encaixa na atmosfera do show. Aliás, esta sequência de músicas a qual ela dá abertura seguem todas essa mesma característica: melancólicas mas alegres (lol). Supermellow Man é outra do Flowers que foi escolhida a dedo e posta no lugar certo. Eu custei a simpatizar com My Kingdom mas cheguei lá. E All My Colours eu me perguntei muito o que ela fazia aqui mas cheguei a conclusão de que todo show precisa de uma parada para decolar de novo, e é o que acontece com as próximas canções. All That Jazz, An Eternity Turns e The Back Of Love não poderiam está melhor colocadas no setlist; a segunda delas já tem essa pegada meio rockabilly, meio rock’n’roll dos 60s e The Back Of Love aqui sem aquelas batidas ‘tribais’ da versão original ficou mais simples porém não perdeu seu mérito. Aquelas palavras lá atrás a respeito de viajar ouvindo esse disco, escutem essas três seguidas no meio da estrada e vão identificar bem o que quis dizer. The Cutter também foi outra que custei a simpatizar mas que acabou se tornando uma das melhores versões deste disco para mim. Over The Wall! Hand in hand! Over The Wall! Watch us fall! Essa música tem uma atmosfera que não consigo descrever bem com palavras. A mistura de sons, a marcação do baixo, as notas entonadas por Will Sergeant em sua guitarra que percorrem toda a música criando uma atmosfera única para esta música. Ao assistir a ela, pode-se ver bem esta atmosfera refletida no público ali presente. Nothing Lasts Forever e Ocean Rain já tem aquela cara de encore break e definitivamente Ocean Rain deixa um gosto de quero mais, como se o show fosse decolar novamente.
Da primeira formação da banda, só se encontram o Ian McCulloch e o já citado Will Sergeant, com suas simples mais marcantes melodias. Depois de algum tempo, achei esse show completo no YouTube e parei tudo na hora só para assistir, mas nada comparado em estar lá. Falei sobre a atmosfera do show, aquela que você sente/percebe ao ouvir este disco, que lhe envolve ao ouvir cada música e se imaginar no meio da galera ouvindo aquele som. E isto foi o motivo que o tornou um dos shows que eu queria ter presenciado. Apenas apreciem mais este som.

>>> Before start this series of posts, I will tell a story. Since I was child when I heard the shows and thought about how would be going in this show, I dreamed of a time machine (lol) to get back in the past so I could watch it. I created a kind of 'top shows' in my troubled mind with this thought: "The shows that I'd wish to be there."
When we talk about the english post punk, Echo & The Bunnymen may be one of the best known bands from the 80s. II usually say I know the most obscure bands from the 80s but not the most famous. They are an example. I listened to their songs in mid-2012 or 2013 (I’m not sure about the date) when I had the great idea of buy the Live In Liverpool CD at a cd/lp store. I still resisted in listen to it but when I heard, WHAT A F*&#*@#$&! SOUND!!! Since this, this album is an indispensable item for my travels and became one in my top 3 'travel albums'. Rescue open the disc with that simple but memorable guitar and made me get my guitar at home to search the notes. Lips Like Sugar fits with the previous just as King Of Kings (another song that made me search for the notes); this last one is the open song from the new album of the new album from 2001, Flowers. I'm suspect to talk of Never Stop 'cause the first time I listen was here in this album and I have to say that is so better than the 80s live versions; I say, I think those 'shouting' at the chorus are not lacking. Seven Seas and The Killing Moon were songs I already met before, in the gigs and parties and this live versions are just great. I have not enough words to describe Buried Alive; no, it's not a marvelous song but have something in particular, something melancholic but at the same time fits with the atmosphere of the show. By the way, this song sequence which this song gives opening have all the same characteristics: melancholics but cheerful (lol). Supermellow Man is another handpicked song from Flowers and put in the right place. I cost to sympathize with My Kingdom but got there. I asked for myself what All My Colours doing right here in the setlist. I concluded that every show should have a break to take off again and, this is what happening in the next songs. All That Jazz, An Eternity Turns and The Back Of Love couldn't be in a better place in the setlist; An Eternity Turns sounds like a rockabilly or a 60s rock'n'roll and The Back Of Love with no tribal beats from the original version, more simple but still cool. I said some words about travel listen to this disc; hear this 3 songs in the road and you will got what I want to mean. The Cutter was another song I cost to sympathize but became one of the better versions from this show for me. Over The Wall! Hand in hand! Over The Wall! Watch us fall! This song have an atmosphere I can't describe well with words. The mixing of sounds, the bass line, the guitar notes of Will Sergeant that drunk your ears and run through the music creating an unique atmosphere for this song. Watch it, you will see this atmosphere that I mean at the audience. Nothing Lasts Forever and Ocean Rain sounds like a encore break and definitelly Ocean Rain leaves a spice of want more, like the show was take off again.
After a while I found this full movie show in YouTube and stopped everything I was doing to watch it, but nothing compares to being there. I've talked about the atmosphere of the show, about how you feel when listen to the songs and imagine yourself in the middle of all those people. This atmosphere made this show become one of the shows that I'd wish to be there. The full version have more songs, this is a version from Brazil. Enjoy the sound.
