Até a pedra empalidece. Uma frase bem contundente para expressar as 4 faixas deste EP. E uma frase que sempre me chamou atenção. O que fariam as pedras empalidecerem? Talvez eles tenham batizado este curto EP desta forma para destacar que as músicas aqui presentes conseguiriam esta proeza. E acertaram em cheio!
Essas 4 músicas (digamos que apenas 3, Held Inside Again é quase que uma continuação da primeira faixa (e diga-se de passagem, eles já gostavam de produzir seus discos desta forma: vide Our Silent Growth e o The Colors Of Ice que já foi postado aqui)) são algo diferente do que este grupo apresentou nos trabalhos posteriores. Aqui o trabalho deles está um tanto quanto mais pesado, tem mais darkwave do que new wave. É algo como o ponto de início que culminou no último trabalho lançado em 1986. A estrutura minimalista das músicas foi o que mais me atraiu e atrai neste disco. É algo que você ouve, sabe que são melodias simples, porém transmitem uma atmosfera que você pode quase tocar. Annual Ring lhe transporta numa viagem sonora (vejo claras influências do Cocteau Twins), onde o baixo guia os caminhos em toda a música e isto é algo que eu definitivamente aprecio em bandas. O minimalismo nas batidas é para mim a cereja do bolo. Desde Held Inside a Chantal’s Secret com suas batidas dançantes, não se perdem uma só música. Antes deste EP, a Weimar Gesang havia lançado alguns cassetes, um deles em parceria com a Plastic Trash que também fazia parte da cena underground da Itália (e que também dividiu um lançamento com a Intelligence Dept.). Ao contrário do que é cantado em Annual Ring “nunca é rápido o suficiente”, digo que este EP é, deveras, bem rápido. Pouco mais de 15 minutos de puro minimal e darkwave. Poderiam ser pelo menos o dobro! Enfim, apreciem mais este som.

What the heck in this world would make the stones pales? Maybe they have baptized this short EP with this name to show that this songs could do this feat. And they nailed it!
This 4 songs (let’s say just 3, Held Inside Again is almost a continuation for the first track (and is relevant say that this guys already like to produce their albuns in this way: just liste to Our Silen Growth and The Colors Of Ice that was post here)) are something different when you compare with the what they presented on their other albums. Here we can listen a more gloomy work, with more dark than new wave. It’s something like the starting point that culminated in their ‘86 work. Their minimal melody was the thing that’s attracted me the most and still attracts me about this record. It’s something that you hear and you know it’s simples melodies, but these songs given’ you an atmosphere that you can almost touch. Annual Ring (with powerful influences from Cocteau Twins) takes you on a musical journey lead by the bass lines in the full extension of this song and it’s something I definitely enjoy in bands. The minimal beats is the icing on the cake. From Held Inside to Chantal’s Secret with your dancing beats. Before this EP, Weimar Gesang was released some cassettes, with Plastic Trash who were also part of the Italy’s underground scene (and who also release a LP with the Intellicende Dept.). Against what is sang in Annual Ring (it’s never fast enough), this EP is a quite fast. A little over 15 minutes of pure minimal and darkwave. It should be at least double! Anyway, enjoy this sound.
