Bem, já comentei sobre desta banda uma outra vez aqui no blog com a promessa de que postaria ela algum dia. Quase 6 anos depois eu vos apresento ela.
A Monuments foi fundada também em Turim, assim como a Chromagain (que já apareceu aqui no blog) e Tommy De Chirico, outro artista da cena new wave italiana. A banda foi fruto da banda new wave Tecknospray onde Mauro Tavella e Andrea Costa já compartilhavam seus interesses sonoros que, com o fim da banda, convergiram para a Monuments. O som que este duo fazia era algo original e peculiar a meu ver. Tinham claras influências do Kraftwerk e produziam seu som apenas com sintetizadores monofônicos e a ajuda de alguns computadores. Em 1984 lançaram o mini-LP Age com 6 músicas ambas presentes aqui neste relançamento da Mannequin (que já tem um histórico de relançamento da cena italiana como a Chromagain, Intelligence Dept., Move e algumas coletâneas de bandas do industrial ao minimal) e em 2015 lançou também o From The Future: The 1982-1983 Tapes que contém músicas gravadas no estúdio particular da banda. Age vendeu cerca de 1500 cópias que, diga-se de passagem, para uma banda da cena underground naqueles tempos é um ótimo número. Fizeram cerca de 400 shows pela Itália, Alemanha e França e em um deles eles representaram a nova música italiana na primeira Bienal do Mediterrâneo em Barcelona no ano de 1985 (infor. da wiki).
Eu destaco aqui Oblivion (que neste relançamento é grafada como Oblivious) e Veiled Lady, uma das canções que foram gravadas na época do lançamento do mini-LP (juntamente com The Seals) mas não apareceram nele e que possui uma melodia contagiante. Veiled Lady foi lançada no primeiro volume da coletânea Danza Meccanica - Italian Synth Wave e foi gravada anteriormente sob o nome de Violet Lady. Clock’s Room é um dos pontos fortes deste disco também, sempre achei ela uma música estranhamente bela. Geisteskrankheit foi a primeira que ouvi e faz jus ao nome; de longe uma das melodias mais belas e perturbantes do disco. Na verdade, todo o disco é de destaque. Este disco é uma verdadeira preciosidade da new wave italiana. Àqueles que gostarem de new wave e minimal, esse som é um prato cheio. Enjoy it.

Monuments was founded in Turim, as well as Chromagain (that appears here in the blog) and Tommy De Chirico, an artist of the italian new wave scene. The band was the result of the new wave band Tecknospray which Mauro Tavella and Andrea Costa already sharing their sound interests that converged to Monuments with the end of the band. The sound this duo made was something original and peculiar in my opinion. They have strong influences of Kraftwerk and produced their sound just with monophonic synthesizers and the help of some computers. In 1984 they released a mini-LP called Age with 6 songs present here in this Mannequin’s re-release (which already has a history of re-releases from the italian scene like Chromagain, Intelligence Dept., Move and some compilations of industrial/minimal/new wave bands) and in 2015 was also release the From The Future: The 1982-1983 Tapes LP which contain some songs recorded in their own studio. Age sold 1500 copies that was a great number to an italian underground band. They played about 400 concerts in Italy, German and France and one of this shows they represented new italian music at the first Mediterranean Biennial in Barcelona, 1985 (info from wiki).
I point out here Oblivion (in this re-release is written as Oblivious) and Veiled Lady, one of the songs that was recorded at the Age’s time but was not released (with The Seals) and have a contagious melody. Veiled Lady was released at the 1st volume of the compilation Danza Meccanica - Italian Synth Wave and was previous recorded with the name of Violet Lady. Clock’s Room is one of the greatests of this album, I always see it like a strangely beautiful song. Geisteskrankheit was the first song I’ve listen and lives up to the name; by far one of the most beautiful and disturbing melody. All the songs deserves a highlight. This album is a really jewel of the italian new wave. For those who like new wave and minimal, this sound will be great to your ears. Enjoy it.
