Nouvelle Phénomène - Glory of Romance (2013)

Nouvele Phénomène, do francês, Novo Fenômeno. E, na minha humilde opinião, não deveria ser outro o nome deste verdadeiro fenômeno, algo raro e surpreendente, e justo por isso que esta banda me chamou tanto a atenção. Essa banda sintetiza literalmente o que há de melhor nos 80s. Digo, o que há de melhor no minimal, coldwave, synthpop... Nos primeiros momentos deste disco que vos trago hoje, já percebemos a pesada influência do minimal nas canções. A voz doce e sexy das meninas Angela e Fanni S. que embebedam seus ouvidos cantando canções sobre luxúria, romances perdidos, mágoas, etc., junto as notas dos sintetizadores de Zsolt Dziba que lhe fazem sentir falta dos dias em que nem viveu. Au Fond De Mon Coeur e Secret abrem o disco com estas características acima. Cruel Game foi a primeira canção da banda que ouvi. Amor a primeira 'escuta'. Nela ouvimos algo que nos remete ao coldwave, com aquela batida que faz o corpo não querer ficar parado. Glory of Romance é uma das grandes do disco, não poderia ser diferente para carregar o nome do álbum. Como Cruel Game, essa canção carrega a veia do coldwave. Aliás, em todo o lado B deste disco está bem audível toda a influência, do synthpop ao coldwave, dos 80s. Caresse e Stay With Me são canções que permanecem tocando em sua mente mesmo depois de já terem terminado. Caresse já está na minha pasta de discotecagem desde a primeira audição. Stay With Me é uma música que me faz se sentir feliz por estar vivo. Lhe manda direto para os tempos áureos dos anos 80, quando explodiam as bandas de maiores nomes do Synthpop da década nas discotecas em todas as partes do globo. In my humble opinion there’s no name for describe better this phenomenon, something rare and amazing, and this is why this band called me so much attention. This band synthesizes the best of the 80s. I said, the best in the minimal, coldwave, synthpop... The first moments of this album, we can see the influence of the minimal in the songs. The sweet and sexy voice of the girls Angela and Fanni S. that drunk your ears singing songs about lust, lost romances, heartaches… Together with the synthesizers notes of Zsolt Dziba that make you miss the days you never lived. Au Fond De Mon Coeur and Secret open the disc with this last characteristics. Cruel Game was the first one I’ve heard. Love at first listen. We can hear something that bring us to the coldwave, with the beat that makes the body don’t stay quiet. Glory of Romance is one of the greatest songs from album and couldn’t be in other way to give the album’s name. Like Cruel Game, this song have an amazing coldwave sound. Moreover, in all the B of this album is very audible all influence, from the synthpop to coldwave from 80s. Caresse and Stay With Me are songs that stay in your mind even after have finished. Caresse is already in my DJing folder. Stay With Me is a song that makes me feel happy to being alive. A song that sends you straight to the heydays of the 80s, when the biggest synthpop bands are in constantly play in the discoteques around the world. Martin Dupont - Hot Paradox (1987)

A primeira impressão que tive dessa banda não foi tão boa. Acho que o vocal me era estranho. Há alguns anos atrás esse som não me parecia tão bom aos ouvidos... Não como hoje. Não demorou muito até me afeiçoar a música. Quando ouvi Inside Out, a batida rapidamente me contagiou. Independentemente de qualquer outra coisa, eu precisava escutar mais músicas daquela banda.

Assim conheci o Hot Paradox. Um synthpop mesclado com coldwave e elementos do minimal. Uma bateria programada; ora simples, ora complexa; em meio a loops. Teclados e sintetizadores nos mais variados efeitos e formas preenchendo as músicas. Vocais variando entre a estranha, mas agradável voz de Brigitte Balian e a voz grave de Alain Seghir. O clarinete e o sax completam os efeitos nas canções. E a cereja do bolo: uma banda da França, da cidade Marseilles.

Este álbum possui uma das capas mais exóticas que eu já vi. He Saw The Light foi o primeiro vício, justo por aquela batida que te transmite aquela vontade de não ficar parado. Full Moons And Mouths idem; mas com uma batida um pouco mais complexa. Para os fãs dos 80s e em especial do coldwave, synthpop ou minimal essa banda será um prato cheio. No arquivo encontra-se a versão do CD.

>>> The first impression I had of this band isn’t so good. I think the voices were strange. A few years ago this sound is not so good to my ears… Not as nowadays. It didn’t take long for me and I get attached myself to their music. When I heard Inside Out, the beat rapidly infected me. Regardless of anything else, I needed to listen more songs of that band.

So I knew the Hot Paradox. A synthpop mixed with coldwave and minimal elements. A programmed drums; sometimes simple, sometimes complex; with some loops. Keyboards and synthesizers with the most various effects and forms filling the songs. Vocals ranging from the strange sweet voice of Brigitte Balian and the ‘bass’ voice of Alain Seghir. The clarinet and sax complete the effects line up. And the icing on the cake: a French band from Marseilles.

This album have one of the most exotic front covers I've ever seen. He Saw The Light was the first addiction, ‘cause that beat will make you not stand still. The same to Full Moons And Mouths. The 80s fans and those who like of coldwave, synthpop and minimal sounds will really really like this band. This is the CD version of this album. Enjoy it!

Weimar Gesang - The Colours Of Ice EP (1985)

Há muito tempo vinha querendo compartilhar este som aqui no blog mas me faltava uma inspiração para escrever sobre esta ótima banda. O que temos aqui é um synthpop/minimal de qualidade ou ainda, se preferir, coldwave. A Itália mais uma vez não deixando nada a desejar em termos sonoros, em relação as demais produções da época. Com ritmos e teclados bem trabalhados junto a guitarra e o baixo que se encaixam perfeitamente ao som produzido. Esta é a Weimar Gesang.

"Deceit" abre o EP, transmitindo um certo tipo de angústia, dando uma 'visão' sonora de como serão as coisas nas próximas faixas. "Like In A Mirror" foi a faixa que me apresentou a banda há alguns anos atrás, música digna de ser executada em festas temáticas em todo o mundo. "One Promise Less" me remete ao The Cure na época do Pornography, com uma melodia um tanto pesada. No mais, esta banda não deixa nada a desejar aos amantes do synthpop, coldwave e etc., sendo mais específico, aos amantes do The Cure, New Order, Depeche Mode, etc. Este curto EP foi lançado em '85 e foi o terceiro trabalho lançado pela banda (um outro EP e um cassete anteriormente); ainda foram lançados outros dois após este (No Given Path e Is It A Crime), mas devo admitir que entre todos este é o melhor (para mim, claro). Apenas apreciem este ótimo som.

>>> A long time ago I’ve been wanting to share this sound in the blog but I lacked inspiration to write about this great band. We have just here a synthpop/minimal with a great quality, or yet coldwave. The Italy again leaving nothing to be desired in therms of sound, in relation with other 80s productions. With a well-crafted rhytms and keyboards together with the guitars and bass that fit very well with the sound. This is Weimar Gesang.

“Deceit” open the EP, transmitting a kind of anguish, giving a sound 'vision' of how will be the things in next tracks. “Like In A Mirror” was the song that introduced me to band a few years ago, a song worthy of being performed in theme parties around the world. “One Promise Less” makes me remember The Cure in Pornography era, with a ‘heavy’ melody. The lovers of synthpop, coldwave and others 80s sounds will be like this band, and more specifically, the lovers of The Cure, New Order or Depeche Mode. This short EP was released in '85 and was the third band released (previously was an EP and a cass); yet been released two other EP's (No Given Path & Is It A Crime) but I think this is particularly better than others. Just enjoy this sound.

Intelligence Dept. - Sleeping City (1984~2011)

Esta é uma banda daquelas que você quer que todos conheçam. O que temos aqui é um synthpop/new wave de qualidade, mesclado com o minimal wave e o coldwave, sem deixar nada a desejar em relação a qualquer outra banda synthpop ou new wave que você conheça, ou até mesmo as coldwave da França. Um elemento que quero destacar aqui é, sem dúvidas alguma, o uso do sax alto; digo, o ÓTIMO uso do sax em todas as músicas! Acho que nenhum outro instrumento teria se encaixado tão bem com a sonoridade da Intelligence Dept.. Outro fator que diferencio aqui é o também ótimo uso do contra baixo que é muito bem trabalhado junto as notas dos sintetizadores, que ao contrário de algumas bandas usam os sintetizadores para sonorizar o mesmo, e da bela voz. Esqueci de mencionar a origem desta banda, da cidade de Ferrara na Itália, que também presenteia/presenteou ótimos sons para o mundo (The Frozen Autumn, Chromagain, Weimar Gesang).

Esse disco foi mais uma parceria entre a Annalogue Records e a Mannequin Records que já estiveram presentes com a Chromagain no Any Colour We Liked. Foi reunido os dois cassetes lançados pela banda em '84 e '85, Sleeping City e The Big Trouble respectivamente, junto a 4 faixas gravadas ao vivo na Arena Nuovo na sua terra natal em '85, entre elas duas totalmente desconhecidas : Nice Faces e Black Widow.

Destaco aqui Sleeping City que desde o início já se nota o belo uso do sax alto, a bela voz da Sussana Zaghi. Too Late To Love é perfeita do início ao fim, música simples porém marcante. Sister Europe é uma versão cover fodástica do The Psychedelic Furs, trocaram as guitarras pelos sintetizadores, deram uma nova cara ao baixo e resultou nesta bela versão. Nas canções do segundo cassete podemos perceber uma certa diferença na sonoridade, algo mais new wave menos minimal, porém também não se deixa nada a desejar. Não há nenhuma para se destacar, todas são dignas de serem repetidas diversas vezes em sua mente. Sleeping City, Too Late To Love e Anger Inside apareceram na compilação de '84 chamada "A White Chance"; Loneliness apareceu na compilação "Danza Meccanica - Italian Synth Wave 1982-1987". A banda ainda está em atividades nos dias de hoje. Deliciem este som perdido dos 80s.

>>> This is one of those bands you want that everyone know about your existence. What we have just here is a quality synthpop/new wave, mixed with elements of minimal wave and coldwave, leaving nothing to be desired in relation with any other synthpop or new wave band you know, or yet the coldwaves from France. An element that I want to call attention here is, undoubtedly, the use of alto sax; I said, the GREAT use of alto sax in all songs! I think any other instruments would have fit so well with the Intelligence Dept. sonority. Other factor that I call attention is the great use too of bass, worked very well together with the chords sounds of synthesizers, unlike other bands that use the synthesizer to perform the bass, and the beautiful voice. I forget to say about the hometown of this band, from Ferrara, Italy; the same Italy that give to world great sounds like The Frozen Autumn, Chromagain, Weimar Gesang.

This album was one more association between Annalogue Records and Mannequin Records that reissued the Chromagain mini-lp with other tracks in the Any Colour We Liked. In this was reunited two cassette tapes released in '84 and '85, Sleeping City and The Big Trouble respectively, with 4 live tracks recorded at Arena Nuovo in '85, two of this is totally unknown: Black Widow and Nice Faces.

I enphasize here Sleeping City in which from the beggining we see the great use of alto sax, and the beautiful voice of Sussana Zaghi. Too Late To Love is perfect in all of the 6:01 minutes, a simple song but excellent. Sister Europe is a fucking great version of The Psychedelic Furs, they change the guitars to synthesizers, gave a new "face" to the bass and results in this perfect version. In the second cassette songs we can see a other sonority, more new wave and less of minimal, but leaving nothing to be desired too. There's no one to call attention about, all are worthy to be repeated several times in your mind. Sleeping City, Too Late To Love and Anger Inside appears in the '84 LP compilation "A White Chance"; Loneliness appears in "Danza Meccanica - Italian Synth Wave 1982-1987" compilation. The band keeps the great work in nowadays. Just enjoy this lost sound from 80s.

Contre Jour - One Night At The Station (2011)

Já falei aqui sobre a França e suas pérolas, seus presentes musicais (Asylum Party, Mary Goes Round, The Pollen) para o globo e etc. Hoje trago uma banda de Nice, uma das poucas que vi captar tão bem a essência, a atmosfera e toda a influência daquela geração (francesa) de coldwave/darkwave, synthpop ou "dreampop", dos anos 80 e também dos anos 90. 

A banda iniciou em 2007 como Neptüne e a Contre Jour só nasceu de fato em 2009. Seu primeiro disco vem com uma sonoridade abrangendo toda essa área citada acima: One Night At The Station, de ótima audição, sintetizadores fortemente presentes e uma guitarra bem marcante, foi lançado em 2011. Lançaram em 2013 o álbum Passion And Fall e recentemente o EP Abîme que você pode encontrar para download gratuito aqui.

Vladilen foi a primeira canção que conheci da banda, através do clipe que vi em algum destes becos obscuros da internet e, definitivamente, já me fez se identificar com a banda: vocais femininos, sintetizadores e toda a atmosfera dos 80s. Hourglass mostra as guitarras que falei, um arpejo simples porém belo; a doce voz sussurrada também é um ponto agradável. Aliás, a doce voz feminina é um ponto agradável nesta banda em todas as faixas. Gosto da introdução de Grey House, uns efeitos aqui e ali e o baixo disparando as primeiras notas. Lies, a simples introdução entre o sintetizador e a guitarra e o refrão (lies... it's just lies), permanecem na mente. Diria que foi um disco bem produzido; por vezes, nos faz pensar que estamos escutando a mesma música quando na verdade já é outra. A produção nos efeitos se encaixam perfeitamente entre as músicas. Destaco ainda One Night At The Station e This Feeling. Degustem mais esta pérola francesa.

>>> I have spoken about France and your jewels, your musical gifts (Asylum Party, Mary Goes Round, The Pollen) to the world. Today I bring you a band from Nice, one of few I have seen so well the essence, atmosphere and all the influences from the french coldwave/darwave, synthpop or 'dreampop' from 80s and 90s.

The band's started 2007 as Neptüne and Contre Jour just born in 2009, indeed. The first record comes with a sonority covering all the styles above: One Night At The Station, with an optimal songs to your ears, very strong presence of the synthesizers and a great guitar, was released in 2011. They released yet the Passion And Fall in 2013 and more recently an EP called Abîme that you can download here.

Vladilen was the first song I've heard, by the video that I found in some of these shady alleys from internet and, once for all, made me like the band: female voices, synthesizers and all the atmosphere from 80s. Hourglass show the guitars I've said, a simple but beautiful arpeggio; the sweet voice in the begin of the song it's a good point too. Moreover, the sweet voice is a good point in all tracks from this band. I like the introduction of Grey House, some effects and the bass firing the first notes. Lies, a simple introduction between the synthesizers and guitars, and the chorus (lies... it's just lies), holding your mind. I would say that it's a album very good produced; sometimes, make you think that are still listen the same track but it's another song. The melodies fit perfectly. I call attention to One Night At The Station and This Feeling. Enjoy this french gift.
