Los Angeles, CA. Ex-VoTo se formou no início dos anos
80 buscando fazer um som diferente daquele punk/post-punk que se fazia naqueles
tempos em Los Angeles, buscando influências da música gótica e a vertente mais
ampla dela na época em LA, o deathrock. De princípio, o som não foi bem aceito
pelo público, mas logo eles os contagiaram com as batidas dançantes de suas
canções mescladas aos teclados e as guitarras pesadas que eles usam até os dias
de hoje. Eles dominaram a cena de LA junto a outras bandas de deathrock da
época como a Screams For Tina e Christian Death. No final dos anos 80, quando a
banda se deslocou para Nova Orleans, o então baixista também assumiu os vocais.
Assim, em ’90 lançaram um EP chamado Don’t Look Back (algum dia posto
aqui) com a música If I Never (da qual gravaram um clipe que eu
particularmente achei muito foda, meio minimalista mas ainda consegue passar a
essência da música).
Ao todo possuem 4 trabalhos gravados, o que posto para
vocês hoje é o álbum de 2006, o Doloroso que, diga-se de passagem, é um
excelente álbum onde carrega as batidas dançantes já faladas antes, samplers,
sintetizadores e guitarras pesadas/sujas ou como preferirem chamar. Todas as
faixas são dignas de serem ouvidas muitas e muitas vezes mas ainda posso
destacar aqui a que abre o disco, Seven Sisters que juntamente com Alena
foram as canções que eu mais ouvia quando conheci a banda. Também merecem destaque Clean On The Outside, Seven
Seas of Misery e a minha preferida: Western Skies. Para este disco
foram gravados 3 clipes e alguns vocês verão mais abaixo.
Uma curiosidade que achei pela net é que o primeiro
show do London After’s Midnight foi quando eles abriram para o Ex-VoTo
num clube chamado Helter Skelter. Sem mais, apreciem mais este som para
seus arsenais.

>>> Los Angeles, CA. Ex-VoTo was formed in the early of
80s looking for a different sound from those punk/post-punk that were in LA at
that time, searching infleunces for gothic and its variations, the Deathrock.
In beginning, the sound was not accepted very well by the audience, but soon they
conquered the audience with your songs mixing dancing beats and keyboards with
the distortion and heavy guitars. They dominated the LA underground along other
deathrock bands like Screams For Tina and Christian Death. In the late 80s,
when the band moved out to New Orleans, the bass player took the vocals too.
So, in ’90 they released an EP called Don’t
Look Back (some day I’ll post here) with a great success If I Never (which recorded a video that I
particularly enjoyed, half minimal but still with the essence of song).
They have four studio works, the today’s album from
2006 called Doloroso is the third. A
great album with the aforementioned dancing beats, samplers, synthesizers and
heavy guitars. All the songs are worthy to be heard again and again and
again... I point out the open track Seven
Sisters that with Alena were the songs
I’ve more heard when I met the band. There’s Clean On The Outside, Seven
Seas Of Misery and my favorite: Western
Skies, songs that stay in the mind. There are 3 musical clips for this

Just a curiosity, the first show of London After’s Midnight was when they opened
to Ex-Voto in a club called Helter Skelter. Enjoy the sound!
