Dick Tracey - Talkin' Bout The Future (1986)

Bem, esta é uma banda que não se encontra praticamente nenhuma informação pelos becos obscuros da internet. Mas p#$&*, eis aqui uma sequência de canções que não deixam nada a desejar aos grandes nomes do New Wave da década de 80. Vamos colocar de outra maneira. Eu diria que poderiam me apresentar essa banda sob um nome famoso e dizer que este era um álbum perdido que eu facilmente acreditaria. Posso estar exagerando e provavelmente esteja; e provavelmente eu irei fazer isso com muitas outras bandas que conhecerei ao longo da minha existência mas este é, de fato, um ótimo disco.

Esta banda foi formada no início dos anos 80 na Filadélfia (obrigado Discogs!!!) pelo George Karras quando deixou a banda Dancer. Junto a ele se reuniram o tecladista Jeff Ragan e a ex-modelo Debbie Kaplan (que diziam ser parecida com a Joan Jett, cantora e atriz que alcançou o auge nos anos 70).

Crashing Into Love me fez pensar que esta seria talvez uma banda com uma sonoridade voltada mais ao darkwave mas ao ouvir a faixa título do disco, você já olha ela com outros olhos. Slave For Nothing é uma música mais parada mas  não menos estimada. Waiting Just For You e E.S.P. são duas ótimas músicas retratando bem o new wave da banda. With Or WIthout You é uma ‘baladinha’ romântica daquelas que ficam mesmo na cabeça (bem, ficou na minha pelo menos) e nela a Debbie Kaplan mostra que além de dividir as letras com o George, ser modelo e baixista, tem também uma bela voz. Basic Combination. Essa música lhe tira realmente toda a vontade de querer ficar parado e sair dançando pela casa/garagem/pararocarronomeiodaruaaumentarovolumeesairparadançar. Além da batida, eu diria que ela tem também tem um ótimo instrumental, simples mais envolvente. Sem mais, apenas apreciem mais este som perdido dos 80s.

>>> Well, this is not a band that you see in every alley of the internet. But f&¨@, this is really a sequence of songs that leaving nothing to desire to the great New Wave’ bands from the 80s. Let’s put it another way. I would say that anyone could introduce this band to me just saying that it’s a lost album by a great famous band and I would easily believe it. Maybe I’m overreacting and probably I am; and probably I will keep doing this with many other bands that I’ll know thoughout my life but this is a great album, indeed.

This band was formed in the early of the 80s at Philadelphia (thanks Discogs!!!) by George Karras when he left the band Dancer. The keyboardist Jeff Ragan and the ex-model Debbie Kaplan (some people said that she’s a Joan Jett lookalike).

Crashing Into Love makes me wonder in a darkwave influenced band but when you heard the title track, you start to think in another way. Slave For Nothing is a slow song but not least estimated. Waiting Just For You and E.S.P. show very well the new wave of the band. With Or Without You is more a romantic song that stick in your mind (well, stayed in my head at least) and you can see that Debbie Kaplan besides being an ex-model, co-songwriter and bassist, she have a very beautiful voice. Basic Combination. This song takes away all you will to stand still and makes you want to start dancing in the house/garage/stopthecarinthemiddleofthestreetpumpupthevolumegetoffthecarandstartdancing. Besides the great beat, I would say that this song have a great instrumental, simple but touching. No more words, just enjoy this great sound.

Nouvelle Phénomène - Glory of Romance (2013)

Nouvele Phénomène, do francês, Novo Fenômeno. E, na minha humilde opinião, não deveria ser outro o nome deste verdadeiro fenômeno, algo raro e surpreendente, e justo por isso que esta banda me chamou tanto a atenção. Essa banda sintetiza literalmente o que há de melhor nos 80s. Digo, o que há de melhor no minimal, coldwave, synthpop... Nos primeiros momentos deste disco que vos trago hoje, já percebemos a pesada influência do minimal nas canções. A voz doce e sexy das meninas Angela e Fanni S. que embebedam seus ouvidos cantando canções sobre luxúria, romances perdidos, mágoas, etc., junto as notas dos sintetizadores de Zsolt Dziba que lhe fazem sentir falta dos dias em que nem viveu. Au Fond De Mon Coeur e Secret abrem o disco com estas características acima. Cruel Game foi a primeira canção da banda que ouvi. Amor a primeira 'escuta'. Nela ouvimos algo que nos remete ao coldwave, com aquela batida que faz o corpo não querer ficar parado. Glory of Romance é uma das grandes do disco, não poderia ser diferente para carregar o nome do álbum. Como Cruel Game, essa canção carrega a veia do coldwave. Aliás, em todo o lado B deste disco está bem audível toda a influência, do synthpop ao coldwave, dos 80s. Caresse e Stay With Me são canções que permanecem tocando em sua mente mesmo depois de já terem terminado. Caresse já está na minha pasta de discotecagem desde a primeira audição. Stay With Me é uma música que me faz se sentir feliz por estar vivo. Lhe manda direto para os tempos áureos dos anos 80, quando explodiam as bandas de maiores nomes do Synthpop da década nas discotecas em todas as partes do globo. In my humble opinion there’s no name for describe better this phenomenon, something rare and amazing, and this is why this band called me so much attention. This band synthesizes the best of the 80s. I said, the best in the minimal, coldwave, synthpop... The first moments of this album, we can see the influence of the minimal in the songs. The sweet and sexy voice of the girls Angela and Fanni S. that drunk your ears singing songs about lust, lost romances, heartaches… Together with the synthesizers notes of Zsolt Dziba that make you miss the days you never lived. Au Fond De Mon Coeur and Secret open the disc with this last characteristics. Cruel Game was the first one I’ve heard. Love at first listen. We can hear something that bring us to the coldwave, with the beat that makes the body don’t stay quiet. Glory of Romance is one of the greatest songs from album and couldn’t be in other way to give the album’s name. Like Cruel Game, this song have an amazing coldwave sound. Moreover, in all the B of this album is very audible all influence, from the synthpop to coldwave from 80s. Caresse and Stay With Me are songs that stay in your mind even after have finished. Caresse is already in my DJing folder. Stay With Me is a song that makes me feel happy to being alive. A song that sends you straight to the heydays of the 80s, when the biggest synthpop bands are in constantly play in the discoteques around the world. ZerØ - Carne Humana (1987)

Formado no ano de 1983 com Guillerme Isnard (ex-Voluntários da Pátria), que junto aos arquitetos Beto Birger (baixo), Claudio Souza (batera), Gilles Eduar (sax), Fabio Golfetti (aquele mesmo, do Violeta de Outono) e Nelson Coelho (guitarras). Esta formação durou apenas até 1985, quando Guillerme reorganizou a banda com Eduardo Amarante (guitarras), Ricky Villas-Boas (baixo), Freddy Haiat (teclados) e Athos Costa (batera).

Com essa formação lançaram o LP denominado "Passos No Escuro" em 1986, que explodiu nas rádios da época com "Agora Eu Sei" (que contava com a participação de Paulo Ricardo) e "Formosa".

Em 1987, o batera Athos Costa deixa a banda e dar lugar para Malcon Oakley, e com essa formação, o LP "Carne Humana" com os hits "Quimeras", "A Luta e o Prazer" e "Abuso de Poder" (esta última não tão tocada nas rádios...).

Ahh sim. Agora vem a parte boa: o LP "Carne Humana". Sim, posso afirmar que para mim esse é um dos melhores discos do rock nacional dos 80's. Trazendo algumas "inovações" sonoras e não se apegando tanto ao post-punk do primeiro álbum da banda.

O LP inicia-se com Algum Vício, com uma letra que fala sobre o amor como um vício (o próprio nome já diz) com aquela entrada triunfal, que não poderia descrever melhor o que viria nos próximos minutos.

Quimeras foi um dos grandes hits do album, falando sobre uma evolução espiritual (como o próprio Guillerme falou no site oficial da banda) e, sem dúvidas é uma música que ficou marcada pra muita gente daquela geração até os dias de hoje.

Linha da Vida é uma das tantas músicas com a temática do amor.

Abuso de Poder é uma crítica a fase de transição que se vivenciava quanto ao governo e sua forma de governar naquela época e, que infelizmente, ainda dura até hoje...

Medo de Voar é uma das grandes do álbum. Aquela pegada do baixo (hipnotizante!), que leva a música até seus últimos instantes; somada a brilhante voz do Guillerme Isnard (nessa música, mais penetrante que nas outras) e ainda, aqueles riffs na guitarra, tornam a música sem igual. Ahh, sem falar do sax da entrada. Enfim, sem descrições disponíveis para ela.

Carne Humana, música título do álbum. Traz uma batida meio groove e fala "da redundância de certas lições que estão sempre sendo repetidas e pouco ou nada ouvidas"; segundo o próprio Isnard.

Seu Planeta, ao meu ver seria uma canção para alertar sobre o que (talvez) já acontecesse naquela época com o mundo, em todos os sentidos, onde ninguém se importava com ele ou o que aconteceria com o mesmo depois de alguns anos. A temática pode muito bem ser usada para os dias atuais; hoje, mais do que nos tempos da própria música.

Game Over... Brilhante canção, brilhante letra. O sax excepcional do início da música, a linha do baixo também marcante... a guitarra e os teclados dão o toque final da música. A letra me parece mais como uma declaração ou prova de amor de um alguém para o outro.

Sem Pudor é mais uma das brilhantes letras sobre o amor do Guillerme Isnard, que me remete a um alguém que não consegue "largar" a pessoa amada. É sem dúvida, uma das grandes do album.

A Luta e o Prazer, uma canção bem executada nas rádios da época. Diz que "não há mais lugar pra quem quer viver um grande amor", e ainda não há. Outra grande canção com a temática do amor, até hoje não entendo ao certo o que o Ronaldo Bastos quis transmitir com esta letra, mas...

"...Se amas sem atrair amor, isto é, 

se vosso amor é tal que não produz amor,

se através de uma "expressão de vida" como pessoa amante

não fazeis de vós mesmo uma pessoa amada,

então vosso amor é impotente, é um infortúnio."

Oh yeah! Now comes the good part: the "Carne Humana" LP. Yes, I can say that for me, this album is one of the best albums from brazilian 80s rock. With some sound "innovations" and don't remain in the post punk from the first LP.
The LP starts with Algum Vício, with lyrics talking about love as a addiction (the name says) with that triumphal entry, that can't describe better what comes in the next minutes.
Quimeras was one of the big hits of LP, talking about an spiritual evolution (as Guillerme says in the Zero official website) and, undoubtedly is a song that was marked for many people of that generation until the present day.
Linha da Vida is one of many songs talking about love.
Abuso de Poder is a criticism for the transition phase that was lived, how  to government and your kind of govern in that epoch, and sadly, still extended 'til today...
Medo de Voar is one of biggest from LP. That bass line (mesmerizing!), that extend in the song until the last moments; added to the Guillerme Isnard amazing voice (in this song, sharper than the others) and still, that guitar riffs, make the song unique. Ahh, not to mention the sax when song starts. Anyway, no more words.
Carne Humana, title song from album. Takes some about groove style and talk about "redundancy of some lessons that are constantly repeated but no one's listen", according Isnard.
Seu Planeta, in my point of view is a song to alert about what the world lived in that epoch, in every senses, where no one cares with the world. The thematic can be used in nowadays; more than in the epoch of this song.
Game Over... Brilliant song, brilliant lyrics. The exceptional sax when song starts, the outstanding bass line... The guitars and keyboards give the final touch for this song. The lyric makes me wonder about a love declaration from a person to another.
Sem Pudor is one more of the brilliant songs about love from Guillerme Isnard, that brings me to a person that can't leave the loved one. No doubts, one of big songs from LP.
A Luta e o Prazer was a song with great performance on the radios at that epoch. Says "não há mais lugar pra quem quer viver um grande amor" (there's no more place for who want living a big love); and still no place.  Other great song with the thematic about love. 'Til these days I can't understand what Ronaldo Bastos wants to say with this lyrics, but...
