Sixtieth Parallel - Into Bliss 12" EP

Hoje tomei o cuidado de subir para o Discogs as imagens do encarte do disco de hoje, que graças a uma amiga (valeu, Maga!), veio parar em minhas mãos. É algo que eu sempre prezo no disco de uma banda, seja qual for, um encarte com as letras. Já falei isso sobre outras bandas aqui no blog, e essa com certeza é uma das que entram nessa “estatística”: o ruim dessa banda é que só lançaram 1 EP. E com apenas 6 faixas! Hoje a gente ainda pode encontrar mais algumas músicas pela internet (valeu, YouTube!) que foram postadas pelo Damien Murray. Aproveitando que falei sobre ele, devo destacar aqui a ótima linha de bateria que é tocada aqui pelo mesmo (ouçam Over And Over), foi uma das coisas que mais me chamaram atenção aqui neste disco. Claro, a bateria casada com o ótimo arranjo das cordas e alguns sintetizadores aqui e ali, dão um corpo a mais as canções, mas a bateria (para mim, claro) merece uma menção honrosa. 

Passionately Deep é uma canção envolvente onde a melodia capta toda a atmosfera do título. Trust foi minha primeira paixão. Essa pegada da música é convidativa para uma pista de dança. Cantarolei esse refrão por muito tempo. 

Todas as músicas aqui merecem um destaque, mas One Day definitivamente me chama atenção. Ouvir essa música alta me transporta pra aquela época, me faz sentir saudade dos tempos que nem vivi. Este é um som que é a cara dos anos 80. Eu vou ficar devendo a vocês o nome da linda voz que entoa no refrão desta música, porém vou destacar essa mesma aqui também, que dá um charme a mais na música. Se ainda tiverem dúvidas sobre a bateria, a faixa título deste EP mostra bem ao que me referi. E claro, sem me esquecer de Like Dust, cover dos Passion Puppets. Eu arriscaria dizer que esta versão ficou melhor do que a original. Segundo palavras do Damien Murray (sim, ele apareceu pela internet comentando alguns vídeos da banda no YouTube e dando maiores informações sobre), eles eram jovens e acharam que seria uma boa gravar esta música e colocar no EP. 

Bem, apreciem mais esta pérola dos 80s.

>>> Today I took care to upload to Discogs the insert photos of today's disc. Thanks to a really good friend (thank you, Maga), ended up in my hands. It's something that I always appreciate in a band's disc, no matter what it is, a booklet with the lyrics. I’ve told this about some other bands in this blog and this is for sure one of the bands that are includes in this words: the bad part of this band is that released just an EP and with only 6 tracks! Well, in nowadays we can find more songs in the internet (thanks to YouTube!) that was posted by Damien Murray. Since I talked about him, I have to point out the great drum pattern in this record (listen to Over And Over), this was one of the things that call me attention on this disc. Of course, the drums along with the bass and guitars arrangement with a synth sound, given a great shape to the songs; but the drums (for me, of course) deserves a honor mention.

Passionately Deep is a charming song with a melody that captures all the atmosphere from this title. Trust was my first passion. This song beat is a invite to the dance floor. I hummed this chorus for a long time.

All the songs here deserves a highlight, but One Day definitely catches my attention. Listen to this song loud takes me back to that time, makes me miss what I haven’t even lived. This is a 80s sound. I will owe you the name of the beautiful voice that sings in the chorus, but I’ll point out this great voice too, that given an additional charm to the song.

If you guys has any doubt about the drums, listen to the EP title track. And of course, I’ll not forget of Like Dust, a Passion Puppets cover. I would venture to say that it’s better than the original song. In Damien’s words (yeah, he appeared on the internet and had commented some YouTube’s band videos), they were young and thought that would be good record this song.

Mellonta Tauta - Rainbow Melodies (2013)

Esta banda argentina da cidade de Mar del Plata, com influências como Cocteau Twins e This Mortal Coil, apresenta um som extremamente sublime nesse segundo disco lançado depois de quase 20 anos do seu primeiro e, até então, último LP de 1994, o Sun Fell. O nome Mellonta Tauta foi tirado de uma história do grande poeta americano Edgar Allan Poe. Este disco é de uma forma atraente aos ouvidos, algo simples com a doce voz de Karina Altamiranda que se mistura entre as batidas new wave minimalistas, algo com uma melodia mais alternativa/pop sem deixar de lado as raízes da banda. Diria que não haveria melhor título para este álbum que vos trago hoje: Rainbow Melodies.

 Twenty Years After foi a primeira que ouvi e tem uma melodia envolvente, seguido da voz angelical da já citada vocalista em uma forma mais grave, mais operística. Raining House já mostra o outro lado de sua voz, sem deixar de lado a influência minimalista acompanhadas de uma guitarra e um baixo bem “Joy Division”. Live Here Forever é simplesmente perfeita; desde sua introdução simples numa combinação entre a voz e os strings até o ótimo jam (se assim posso dizer) que percorre a música até os últimos minutos, sem contar o arranjo do sax que dá outra vida a esta música. É a música ideal para se ouvir enquanto assiste a chuva cair. A faixa título não é de forma alguma menos atraente, porém, existem ainda melhores neste disco. No mais, apreciem mais este som.

This disc is really attractive to ears, simple with the sweet voice of Karina Altamiranda, mixed with the new wave minimal beats, with a alternative/pop melody and preserving the band’s sound from the beginning. I would say there’s no better title for this today’s album: Rainbow Melodies.

Twenty Years After was the first song I’ve heard and have a catchy melody, together with the heavenly voice of the aforementioned singer in a more deep voice, like an opera voice. Raining House presents with another voice type, minimal influences with guitars and a “Joy Division” bass. Live Here Forever is just perfect; since your simple introduction with a combination of voice and strings to the great jam that travel all the music until the last minutes, not to mention the sax. It’s the perfect song to hear watching the rain fall. Enjoy this sound!

The Pollen - Contrasts CD (1989)

Chegando de mais uma jornada de estudos, pensei em escutar o Pollen. Rapidamente me veio a cabeça à quanto tempo não postava no blog. Então, nova postagem. :D

O The Pollen é mais uma das tantas pérolas francesas, ótima banda e um ótimo som. Nurturing Desire me faz perceber boas influências da Siouxsie, sem contar os vocais. O disco todo é recheado de um ótimo som meio indie, meio post-punk, sem deixar de lado a sonoridade mais 'dark', mais pesada e dotada de um clima mais denso que era bastante comuns nas bandas dos 80's. Passionate Reading é muito boa também; com uma introdução no baixo simples, porém, envolvente, que percorre grande parte da música e, mais uma vez, os vocais! Killer é uma música estonteante, a linha de baixo é simples e perfeita.

Outro ponto a favor, um dos produtores deste álbum foi o músico e compositor Adrian Borland (RIP :/), que foi mais conhecido com o seu trabalho no The Sound como vocalista. Pois bem, se ele já era bom como vocalista e compositor do Sound, não deixou nada a desejar como produtor do The Pollen. 

Este álbum teve uma versão em LP e outra em CD, com algumas músicas a mais, e é a versão que estou postando hoje. Não há tantas informações do The Pollen pela net, mas posso afirmar com toda certeza que para os amantes dos 80's: apesar de desconhecida, não deixa de ser uma ótima banda e pra quem é fã do indie ou dreampop ou ainda mesmo do post-punk não se arrependerão de baixar.

The Pollen is one more of the many french pearls. A great band with great sound. Nurturing Desire makes me wonder in powerful influences from Siouxsie, not to mention the vocal. The album is stuffed by a lot of great sounds half indie, half post punk, without forgetting the dark sonority, more heavy and endowed by a more dense weather that was quite common in the 80s. Passionate Reading is another good song; with the simple bass line introduction, however, sorrounding, that runs through much of the song and, one more time, the vocal! Killer is a stunning song, with a simple and perfect bass.
Another point in favor, one of the album producers was the musician and composer Adrian Borland (RIP :/), that was more known with your work in The Sound as vocalist. Yeah, if he was good as vocalists and composer from Sound, he leave nothing to desire as producer of The Pollen. This album had a LP and CD version, this last with more songs, and this is the version that I'm post today. There's no many informations about The Pollen in the net, but I can afirmate with all certainty to the 80s lovers: although unknown, The Pollen is such a great band and for those all fans of indie or dreampop or post-punk, will not go wrong in download this album.
