A Bélgica, no meio underground, é bem mais conhecida pelo EBM ou industrial de bandas que se destacaram ainda na década de 80 (Front 242, Absolute Body Control, Poésie Noire, The Neon Judgment) e se espalharam pelo mundo. Porém, as terras belgas ofereceram ainda muita coisa boa durante os 80s; esta banda é uma prova disso. Junto a ela houveram tantas outras que constituíram o cenário musical chamado de Belpop (Telex, The Scabs) que se abrangia a diversos estilos, do punk rock ao synthpop.
A Scooter foi uma dessas bandas que logo no início dos 80s, emplacou You nas paradas de sucesso do país (ganharam o Summerhit Award em ‘81 organizado pela Radio 2 da Bélgica). A banda teve uma curta vida mas do sucesso remanescente dela, o Piet Van Den Heuvel deu impulso a sua carreira musical. Por exemplo, logo após o término das atividades da Scooter formou juntamente com Jan Verheyen, seu parceiro musical, a banda da postagem de hoje: Catalog Of Cool.
Eis aqui uma banda com pouquíssimas informações na internet. Da cidade de Antuérpia, com uma rica variedade sonora e um grande time de músicos para completar o quadro, deram vida ao Restless em ‘86, que infelizmente foi seu único álbum. Neste disco podemos ver influências que passam pelo jazz, soul e o funk dos 80s, mesclados ao então new wave e pop emergente da época. The Left Hand e Jive Voodoo possuem algo na bateria que me chamou a atenção logo nas primeiras “ouvidas” (me lembrou um pouco das linhas de bateria do Boris Williams). Astrid Lindberg é um belíssimo instrumental, de melodia com uma influência árabe (talvez?!) bem cativante. In The Middle Of Nowhere foi o primeiro single da banda, aqui numa versão reduzida da original que foi lançada em ‘85 (e que tive o cuidado de colocar no arquivo junto com o lado B This Is Where The Heart Is) e que só saiu na versão em CD deste álbum. Esta música deveria ter sido um clássico dos anos 80, digna de tocar em discotecas de todo o mundo. Apesar de ótimas versões, prefiro ainda a original. Restless (com sua melodia influenciada diretamente pelo soul e funk) deu nome ao disco mas em minha opinião, existem melhores neste disco como as já citadas, por exemplo. Souvenir From Africa contou com a participação de Noah Howard no sax, músico de jazz estadunidense. Para aqueles que gostam da música dos 80s e dos estilos aqui citados, eis uma banda que apresenta uma bela mix sonora dos mesmos. Obrigado ao 80zforever por disponibilizar este trabalho. Enjoy!

Scooter was one of those bands that in the early 80s put You in the top charts of country, (they won the Summerhit Award in '81 promoted by the belgian Radio 2). The band had a short life but by its remaining success, Piet Van den Heuvel improves your musical career. For example, when Scooter ended, he started another one with your musical partner, the Scooter’s guitarist Jan Fraeyman, the today’s post: Catalog Of Cool.
Here is a band with very very little information on the internet. From Antwerp, with a rich sound variety and a great team of musicians to complete the picture, they gave life to Restless in ‘86, but unfortunately was your only work. In this album we can hear influences like soul, funk and jazz, mixed up with elements of the emerging new wave and pop. The Left Hand and Jive Voodoo have something on the drums that caught my attention when I heard it the first few times (reminded me of Boris Williams’ drum patterns). Astrid Lindberg is a wonderful instrumental with some arab melodies influences. In The Middle Of Nowhere was the first band single, that have a short and different version than the one that has already been released (which I put together in the archive with the B side This Is Where The Heart Is) and only came out in the CD version. This song should have been a classic from the 80s and deserved to have been played in all discotheques around the world. Both are great versions (I prefer the single version). Restless (a melody influenced directly by soul, funk and jazz) gave the album its name, but imho there’s better songs in this album. Souvenir From Africa had a collaboration with Noah Howard, an american jazz alto saxophonist. For those who like the 80s sounds and the musical styles above, here is a band that presents you a so-well sound mix of this styles. Enjoy and thanks to the 80zforever to provide us this work!
